General Informations

PASITOS (pasos = Spanish for step) describe salsa step combinations that are danced without a partner. Dancing Pasitos (Pasos) together is often used as a warm-up for the salsa dance.

There are several different salsa styles but the differences between the styles aren`t overly significant. The basic steps and the basic rotation are the same in all styles. Differences exist when it comes to the moves of the leading partner. Salsa music and the corresponding salsa dance both result from a combination of Afro-Caribbean and European dance styles.

Helpful prerequisites:

  • Experience with movement and music
  • Basic salsa step is introduced
  • Examples from the category: "Short Dances"

Tips for implementation:

  • Different forms of organisations add variety and take some pressure off the teacher as the "presenter".
  • Lay some music during the practice phase (motivation). The sound volume can be varied.

Further steps:

  • Different Pasitos can be used to create a short sequence, which, for example, can be danced in a group in different directions.
  • Combine Salsa moves and Pasitos

Tips relating to the music: further information can be found under the heading "Tips & methods" > Music

  • For this example, several different music pieces are suitable. A clear rhythm with between 70 - 105 beats per minute (BPM) is helpful.
  • Good, motivating music is very important. Use songs that are currently popular every now and then. Bring faster and slower music to the lesson. These add variety and motivation to lessons.
